Perform plant lubrication


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to maintain grease, oil levels and quality in all areas of power generating plant. The selection and use of lubricants, as well as the care and operation of lubricating systems, is an essential part of any power generation plant maintenance program.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan and prepare plant to conduct lubrication, performing routine checks on plant, conducting plant lubrication and completing documentation. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator, in a power generation facility.

Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work

Plan and prepare to conduct plant lubrication

Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations are identified and applied, in accordance with workplace procedures

Work requirements are identified, in accordance with workplace procedures, from relevant personnel and documentation

Plant lubricating status is assessed and evaluated from documentation, in accordance with workplace procedures

Isolation of power generation plant is arranged, in accordance with workplace procedures

Perform routine checkson plant lubrication

Conduct plant lubrication

Power generating plant requiring lubrication are cleaned, in accordance with workplace procedures, before lubricating work is carried out

Power generating plant is lubricated, in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)/Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures

Power generating plant is returned to operational condition, in accordance with workplace procedures, to ensure safety of personnel and plant integrity

Complete documentation

4.1

Power generating plant problems, movements, and status is reported in accordance with workplace procedures

Documentation is updated, in accordance with workplace procedures
